Lewis Hamilton won the Breakthrough of the Year Laureus award for his impressive debut season in Formula One last year. The Briton had finished the year one point short of becoming a world champion in his debut season.

Ironically the last time a F1 driver had won a similar honor, it was taken home by Juan Pablo Montoya. The Columbian had an up-down F1 career which saw him leave F1 for Nascar over a year ago. For Lewis’ sake lets hope the award ain’t jinxed.
