As the chequered flag came out on Silverstone the grim reality of it all hit the F1 paddock. Renault and Alonso are unstoppable this season and the much awaited misfortune and bad luck as kept away from the French outfit. The victory took the list of consecutive podiums for Alonso to 14. The world record held currently by Michael Schumacher at 19. The recent hunger of victory has meant that, Michael’s other records are clearly threatened by the Spaniard who looks all set to rewrite record books.
The race victory means that Alonso can finish 2nd behind Michael in every race remaining in this season and still win the World championship. Winning the World Champs for the second time will mean that he would have won 2 Grand Prixs before anybody ever in the sport. The second WC victory would be at an age younger than Emerson Fittipaldi (The second youngest driver to become World Champ after Alonso) managed his first Championship victory. The successful defense of the World Championship will mean that he will automatically become the youngest driver to defend the WC successfully dethroning guess who… Michael Schumacher from the record books.
Michael’s first WC came in the year 1994 at an age of 25yrs and 10 months, Alonso’s in 2005 at an age of 24yrs 2 months. Alonso has an year advantage over Michael but the work to be done is incredibly difficult… Michael went on to win 5 of the next 10 WCs and If Alonso has to better the scales he would minimum hv to do the same… Its impossible to predict how things will turn out but so far Alonso has not only been on time wrt victories and poles wrt Schumi he is actually one better.
Here is a short comparison of the two as they headed for their Second World Championships

There are intresting facts around those statstics like both won their first Grand Prix towards the end of their second season and it was their only race win that season. They both at that time were on their 5th season in F1. They both moved(or will move) from their team after 2 WC victories.
In the last 27 GPs Alonso has gone on the podium 23 times and has won 12 of those races. Stunning form similar to Michael’s domination 2002 and 2004.
If the last 3 races are any indication, Renault and Alonso look in total control of the WC. Michael has clearly never had a harder fight for the WC ever. How far will the domination last and will Michael be able to close the gap or will the Spaniard seal the WC with quarter of the season remaining only time can tell. Until then we can all sit back and watch the best racing we have watched in years and hope we are witness to something future generations may not be privileged enough to watch

A couple of questions in the post race press conference clearly showed what the media is thinking… There has been indications of this before but is everyone happy inside the Renault Pits?
These were the questions that raised my curiosity… (full interview available here)
Q: (Juha Päätalo - Financial Times Germany) Fernando, on the podium you were kissing your trophy. Was it for the eight points you gained, after yesterday, or was it the gap you have gained over Räikkönen or Schumacher?
FA: I kiss the trophy normally at all the races when I finish on the podium because for me to finish on the podium means to be consistent in the championship and the key to win it again as last year is that. Yes, this race is more important than the first race to me because the championship points compared to Räikkönen and to Michael, who on paper will be the first two opponents in the championship, is good to have them at the back and to open the gap quite a big chunk here in Malaysia like I did last year in the first races. So I enjoy more these eight points maybe more than last weekend.

I think it was a smooth start for the season, looking at the result, its promising to take the championship[both drivers and constructers] down to the wire.
before i start with usual stuff, i would like to make point about the debutants in this season. As far as i have noticed there where four of them[correct me if i’m wrong here]. i have not heard about any of them before so its quite early, to say some thing that is concreate. but just a look of it, is what i want to express here above anything else.
first of all,
Ide-i think super aguri’s where not performing at all, so not sure about him.
Scot speed- the only American,his pace on track doesn’t go with his name. has a lot to learn before he do anything noticeable at this level.
Luizzi- i hope i spelled it correctly, he was quick and drove that car with some pace but is vulnerable, so has to curb aggression, i guess.
and finally Rosberg- what more can i say, than the fact that, he was the quickest man on track[1:32:400 odd ms] and got a couple points on his debut[another driver one would remember earning points on his debut is, his partner Mark Webber]. having said all, that williams car was flying around park.

The change in qualification this year has already sparked of a controversy… It looks like the qualification rules was not clear enuf(atleast to me) and a deeper look into the rules cleared up a few things.
Firstly what was the meaning of that quote by Michael in the post race press conference
We got pole position yesterday, unfortunately I lost one lap in qualifying where, for traffic reasons I had to back off and I didn’t get the fuel, and if you look at it now, it’s the one lap that I was missing, in a way.
