2007 Australian Grand Prix - Winners And Losers…
Mar 19th, 2007 by admin
The first race of the season is behind us and its time we look at who stepped out of the shadows to claim the limelight… Who over promised and fell short on delivering and Who impressed and who simply did not matter…
Winners:
Kimi Raikonnen: A perfect start to the season… Many questioned his work ethic but thats all in the past. Kimi did what he knows best drive fast and cross the line before anyone.
Ferrari: For Ferrari this race was just about standing up to the expectations of the critics. Fortunately Kimi’s victory overshadowed the gearbox failure and the engine change on Massa’s car.
Mc Laren: 12 months without a victory and they just bounce right back. Never write off a team that has tasted championship gold before…
Lewis Hamlinton: The super Rookie has impressed us all… Hope its just not a flash in the pan. Lot more lessons for the young Briton to go but he looks very much like a top driver already.
Fernando Alonso: Its hard to keep a double world champion down… Alonso has been fighting for race wins for 24 months now, he made sure that would not change just because he switched teams.
BMW: Good race… If Kubica had finished they could have had 2 drivers in the top 6. Can and will give Ferrari and Mc Laren a run for their money provided they can get both cars to the finish line now on.
Nick Heidfeld: Great start but lost out to the Mc Larens thanks to the pit strategy. Very much a podium deserving performance but just not enough…
Super Aguri: Top quality performance… They should consitently try to do what they did here, very soon they can be fighting with the likes of Williams and Toyota for the points.
Giancarlo Fisichella: The Italian has matured a lot… His driving towards the end was not just commendable but brilliant. He held a charging Massa for almost 10 laps.
Losers:
Heikki Kovalainen: The other rookie was just that “the other rookie” in the race. Renault team members say it was not Heikki driving the car… hopefully we get to see the real Heikki in Malaysia.
David Coulthard: What was with that crazy move on Wruz.
Felipe Massa: Nice race but he threw away a race win with the gearbox failure, which was attributed a self inflicted ride on the corners.
Renault: They need to shape up if they want to be a contender this season. The last two years they won thanks to their early season form… This time they probably need to find another way.
Honda: Was saving 1 lap of fuel by finishing a lap down a part of the save environment plan?
