2006 FORMULA 1™ Foster’s British Grand Prix - Qualification Alonso Storms to 4th Consecutive Pole
Jun 10th, 2006 by Haas
Alonso blasted to Pole in the qualification for the 2006 British Grand Prix with an amazing 1m 20.253s lap. It was disappointment for British fans as Button managed only 19th after he was left without enough time to do a second lap thanks to a FIA weigh in. Webber was the other disappointment as he managed 17th, Rosberg managed a decent 12th as the Williams struggled.
Kimi woke up Mc Laren fans with a brilliant lap that split the top 2 drivers of the season. His last lap started bad with a possible mistake in the first sector costing him 3 tenths in that sector alone… he went on to post the fastest sector times in the next two sectors. He finished 0.15s off Alonso’s pace but that was good enough for P2.
All eyes in the weekend were on Michael as he topped the times for the saturday practice session. His initial pace in the 3rd session was brilliant and looked like he would run away with the session. The times after the pitstop clearly showed that the Michael was only a fraction faster than the rest and after the final set of laps Alonso who was right behind him clearly outpaced the champ in every sector.
Massa and Fisi took places 4 and 5 looking strong for a good result in this GP. Fisi seemed to be on a higher fuel load as he struggled to match Alonso’s pace… only time can tell.
As for predictions… Kimi looks really strong at P2 but I doubt that he made a mistake in Sector 1, If he didn’t then the Mc Laren is almost 0.5s off the pace of the Renaults and Ferraris. The other disconcerting thing is their pace in the third session which was too slow compared to the top laps. If the Mc Laren holds I expect it to give Alonso and Michael a fight.
My Predictions:
1. Alonso
2. Michael Schumacher
3. Kimi

Jensen needs to work out if he’s there for the ride or really going to achieve something. (I had a student pilot for the RAF with a similar mentality …thought he was the bo**cks just because he was there) Mr Button, get your ass back in the car and do a few miles, that’s my advice mate.
