Alonso starts this weekend as the bookies favourite according to this blog entry…

And why not I had the opinion that Renault was the most confident with their performance… so confident that they let their car out with about 2 min 30 sec left on the clock on the first 2 sessions, Giving Alonso and Fici just one shot at qualifying. The results of the sessions speaks for itself Fici did amazingly well and the King of One Shot Qualification Alonso topped with the weekends fastest lap.
None of the other 3 challenging teams ‘dared’ to do that…
Oooh, com’n you got to be kidding me, if you are saying that the other teams were, under a fear of not being in the final ten. we all know and even you that, other three teams would have made it easily in to the final ten even if there drivers made some mistakes on the track. and about the “King of One Shot Qualification” thing that you menstioned before him cars that were out, were the slower cars, and in last 5 five there was huge traffic on track, he was lucky for not being caught up in there.
Fear is too strong a word but each team gave their drivers a chance to make a mistake and comeback and do another lap… With the Renault team it was mostly:
Guys we need to just get to the top ten give ur best and you hv only one shot… all the best
As for the cars out with Alonso… if Michael Schumacher, Ralf, Juan Pablo, Massa, Button constitute slower cars then ur prob right.
About the “King of one shot Qualification”, well his performace last year in qualification was far better than any other driver in F1 even at times when the Mc Laren was leaps and bounds faster than the Renault… Alonso managed a spectacular lap time. He is probably the best qualifier since late Senna… As for the current higest number of poles record co holder this article says it all: http://www.formula1.com/news/4112.html
You know, it says it all. Being compared to Senna is much more than any record Schumi can break. It will be sometime before Alonso can ever hope to be compared to Schumi, let alone Senna.
Yes, Alonso might be good in One shot qualifications. But it’s the race that matters.. And races can still be won without a pole position. Ergo, Raikonnen, Schumi.
It is without doubt or contention that Ferrari has the _best_ strategy overall, barring a couple of errors (*cough* Bahrain *cough*)
This blog looks really nice!
I’m sure followers of F1 will love it.
